
A one-way route around the Zoo is still in effect to better allow for social distancing. Tickets can be purchased online to limit contact at the gates. They are also required when inside buildings and within 6 feet of other guests or staff. To limit the spread of COVID-19, facial coverings are required upon entry for guests ages 6 and up. Safety measures that were implemented when the Zoo re-opened on June 8th will remain in place. In the 1960s, Gladys (now Porter) and her husband Dean travelled extensively throughout Africa and other foreign countries where they became interested in and concerned about the plight of the world’s wildlife which consequently led them to deciding to open up a zoo in Brownsville.

Mr Sams had two daughters, Gladys and Camille, and they both became heavily involved in charitable work and, following their father’s death in 1950, they were both entrusted to administer the funds established by his Foundation.
